- It's been a dreary, yet busy month. Check out the President's Message for the latest news. Our regular meeting is July 7th at the field at 6:30PM, so, come early to get some flying in before the contest starts. Don't forget the fun fly is on the following Saturday!
- Our annual booth at the Essex Junction Block Party is this July 17th from 4-9PM. I need your help running this booth as I'll be unavailable that weekend. Please give me a call if you can help out! Thanks,

Green Mountain R/C Club President's Message
President's Message July 2010,
Hello to all members and fellow flyers,
I've been flying plenty and hope you have to. I know of several that have been too busy and haven't been down to the field lately. All I can think is that absence makes the next flight that much sweeter. If you have been to the field in the past month, you'll see our new pilot stations. Thanks to Mark Berardo and yours truly for donating the material and several other members that donated their time at the June fun fly, we now have some pretty spiffy stations that will stop the largest planes we fly if that ever is needed. They also doubled as contest plane stands on one occasion this month when we needed more height on a windless Wednesday night. We made them removeable for mowing and the guys put the contest plane launchers on top of the pilot stations to help with getting clean take-offs. It looked really wierd, BUT it worked! Speaking of the June fun fly, it was not a stellar day. Grey clouds, threats of precipatation, and cool temps kept down the attendance. Not to discourage anyone, but the weatherman just gave out the stats for June and I was a bit surprized as I didn't think it was THAT bad, rained 23 out of 30 days and 2.5" of rain over the average. Geez, sounds a lot like last year! I'm so happy that we fixed the road, my god I would have spent all my flying money for the year at the car wash by now.
With the new pilot stations, again we've stepped up our safety awareness for this year. I'm glad to see more lipo bags being used, less charging inside on the car seat and we've also replaced the first aid kit in the shed. The last item is a fire extinquisher which should be coming soon. I haven't seen or heard of any accidents in the pits this year at all, and that's excellent news, good job everyone and lets keep up the safe practices.
The Green Mountain Flyers Club ( a new club this year) held their first ever 3D Huckfest in Pownal a few weeks back. For a new club they put on a fantastic event. Mark B. and I went down for the first half of it and checked it all out. The old Pownal racetrack provides a wonderful place to fly. The old track is hard packed fine stone, and they get to use the grandstand for indoor storage, bathrooms, power, etc. And these guys are serious 3D huckers. That's not to say that's all that they fly, they have some helo guys and the usual assortment of electrics. Everyone there had a great time, including Mark and myself. They did it up unbeliveably well, food vendors, a few hobby shop vendors (saved my butt when a aileron coupler decided to give up), raffles with some really big prizes, and my favorite, they had a audio system setup with 2 huge speakers playing rock and roll all day long!!! It's as if they knew I was coming! Check out the Flying Giants forum thread for more about this first ever, and hopefully, annual event.

Check out the last 7-10 pages for pics.
Also I got some awesome video of these guys hanging the props and doing it over the pond. Off the hook stuff!

For future events, besides our own meetings and fun fly's I have 2 that I should mention. First is the Lake Champlain Maritime Festival at the waterfront, for August 13th and 15th (the area we will use is taken on the Sat. the 14th). I've signed us up to attend and put up a static display to promote the club and if you're brave or like me, a bit over the edge, fly a few demos in a tight area full of trees, lamp posts and probably be flying mostly over the sparkling waters of Lake Champlain. Maybe we'll need a small boat just in case? I'd like to hear back on who is interested and start organizing who wants to help. Let me know.
The other event I'd like to attend this month is the VMC Barnstormers fun fly on Saturday July 24th at their field. They're getting several clubs together for a big fun fly, I hope some of us can attend.
Well that's it for now, keep'em straight and level, ha ha ha

Wednesday Contest News
The WNFC (Wednesday Night Fight Contest) is now in full swing. As of last night we have raced 4 out of 5 Wednesday nights (one got rained out). After a few rules and scoring changes or better said, corrections, things are going really well. Mark Lucia holds a significant lead, all due to an outstanding first night where he had his s#*t (that's stuff) together and took first place in all his 4 heats while the rest of us were flopping off the launchers, crashing into the dirt on the first turn, or finding out just how to connect with the pylon instead of going around it. Since then, the heats are, oh god do I dare say, "heating" up and many of the heats are out and out battles with a touch (pun intended) of contact that sometimes eliminates an opponent or most likely sends you straight into the ground and last place. But as our VP says, quote " That's racing!" Hope to see you on Wednesdays.
