Green Mountain R/C Club President's Message

President’s Letter – September 2010
Hello again to all you flying addicts. It’s been a busy month and so this may get lengthy. I’ll try to keep it smaller than a novel.
The field crew of Gary Berian and Steve Shaw should be commended on their golf course management prowess in keeping the field pristine these past few months. We all know how Mark and I prided ourselves on how well we kept the field prior to the “new” guys taking over, but as Mark mentioned to me last week “These guys are putting us to shame!”. And that about summed it up. A big thanks to Steve and Gary, nice job.
This month the GMRC club joined the LCM (Lake Champlain Meritime) Festival and put on some demos and static displays. We’ve been invited in earlier years but either couldn’t make it or the event was cancelled. Well this year it happened. Myself and few members setup shop on a spit of land down near Perkins pier at the Burlington Waterfront and wowed the crowds with a nearly pure 3D show. Lots of questions and enthusiasm from the spectators as Mark and I battled 20mph winds and 30mph gusts on Sunday. A truly WILD time on the sticks. My thanks to Mark Berardo for joining me on Friday and Sunday., and Steve Pakulski for the static display and greeting dozens of spectators. Check out the pictures taken on Friday and Sunday.
Last Wednesday marked the FINAL night of the WNFC (Wednesday Night Fight Club) pylon races. The results are posted on our website. The winner, Mark Lucia, flew a consistent series every fight night and coasted to the 1st place finish untouchable. Well done Mark and congratulations The 2nd place prize however was up for grabs until the final heat! Mark Berardo barely holding on to 2nd place couldn’t attend the final night. Three other contestants were close enough to take it outright. I needed a 7, Steve Pakulski a 6, and John Fitzgerald a “perfect” 4! I knew I was in trouble as soon as John showed up that night GUNNING for 2nd place. He started by asking some curious questions about the possibility of peak charging his batteries and how high of a voltage he could safely crank into them! Then he brings out a can of dust off and uses it to cool his motor!!  Well it worked, sort of., by the end of the race, John had taken 5 points and TIED Mark for 2nd place.  I tried to catch him, but it wasn’t going to happen that night. He came ready to RACE! Contest prizes will be awarded at the November dinner meeting. I hope all the contestants had as much fun as I've had this year. The Assassin wing made for some excellent races and competition.

Just a quick note about this years November dinner meeting. I’m planning on having it at my place this year, again like last year it’ll be pot luck. All GMRC members are invited and bring a guest or 2. We will need to plan for new officer nominations for 2011 to vote on during the meeting. John Fitzgerald mentioned that he would be interested in the MemLarge/CD or VP position. So I’ll start things off by saying that if Tony or Mark are ready to step down or change board positions I'd like to nominate John to be on the board next year, in the Member at Large/ CD or VP post, if he accepts. I will be handing over the reins as President. Anyone interested?

Just a friendly reminder once again to all that visit our field. The speed limit is 5mph while going through the farmyard area. After the barn, burn rubber, kick up the dust, do whatever (quote from JP). While in the farmyard, go slow, keep dust to a minimum and all will be good. Thanks to all that responded earlier to my email, clearly many, if not almost all of us “get it”. Unfortunately, it will only take a few “events” to cause us a problem. Thanks for your help and for spreading the word to all.
Well it ain’t a novel yet, but it’s approaching essay length...
Finally, we have a Barbecue Fun Fly planned for Sept. 11th. We’re trying to kick it up a notch or 2 and add some different flavors to the venue other than the usual hotdogs and hamburgs. I’ve been hearing bratwurst, quote from Jack C, a “mean” onion ring, and brownie cookies. Yummm. Fred Towler has stepped up to help with the food planning. Contact him if you have some more ideas. I’ve asked Tony as our CD director to come up with a contest event. I’m hoping that we can all bring our contest wings and do limbo, all for one pylon, or maybe combat. I’d like to also have a 50/50 raffle to help offset some of the cost and to possibly provide for some contest or door prizes. I could also use some help with the organizing of the event. Volunteers?

Well that’s it for now, hope to see all of you at the meeting on Wednesday,
Your Pres,
Al
