2010 October Newsletter

Green Mountain R/C Club
This month's news: The club hosted the best Barbecue Fun Fly (click on the link), and there are more photos here. I'm sorry I missed that Fun Fly, but don't feel too sorry for me, I went to the NEAT Fair in New York. Mike and I flew a bunch, built some things, and bought too much stuff. I'll try to bring some things Wednesday. Check out some of the pictures below from the Fun Fly and the NEAT Fair.
Be sure to read Al's message as it's a great summary of the past month.
Our regular meeting is October 6th at the field at 6:00PM, so, come early to get some flying in before the meeting. In the event of rain, we'll hold it on Saturday's Fun Fly...
Don't forget, the fun fly is on Saturday October 9th!
Barnstormers fun fly is on Oct 16th starting at 8am
Green Mountain R/C Club President's Message
President’s Letter – October 2010
Hello again to all GMRC members, flyers, and enthusiasts,
The month of September was a good one for the club. We had a great fun fly on the 11th with a huge attendance and lots of fun activities during the day. Balloon pop, combat (geez it's hard to hit someone when you're trying to!), and the best event ever! a paintball shoot up. Adding to that we had a great barbecue with some great food and a ton of help from the volunteers. I have many to thank and will just say "great job" to the whole gang that helped me put this one together. The weather was perfect, we all got in a lot of flying, and the day went smooth for everyone. No major mishaps and almost all the planes and helos went home in one piece. Thanks to everyone for the landing fee and food contributions, the club is now in much better shape financially after incurring above average expenses this year for road improvements and mower repair/maintenace.
A few members went to the NEAT fair, I haven't heard much other that Mike Muzzy "went shopping", so I'm interested in hearing all about that.
Now is the time to start thinking about the November dinner party and the officer elections for 2011. A few of the current officers have agreed to continue in their current capacity and at least one have decided to step down. The one I'm sure of is yours truly. After 3 years as President and many other years before that as the member at large or sec/tres.I've decided that I'm going to pass the reins on to a new President for 2011. So we need someone to step up, help out the club, and take the nomination for the spot. If you're a member of the club and you're 18 or over, then you're qualified. We need to find a candidate before the November meeting. Please contact me if you're ready to sign up. I would also encourage other members to nominate someone who you believe would be your choice, sort of like a primary. I polled the current officers to see if they had any ideas on this subject and 3 names have come up. In no particular order, Mark Lucia, Mike Muzzy, and Steve Pakulski were mentioned. So I'll start with them. Would any one of you be interested and accept?
For the November dinner meeting, I have one other official piece of business I would like to vote on. This is to adjust the membership dues to help support the club financially for the future. The club has kept the current dues for several decades and never made adjustments for inflation or increased costs. My proposal is to raise the regular member rate to $50 per year. If you think about what was required this year to cover the added road costs and mower expense we really had a $46 due rate for regular members this year. Fred researched what other rc clubs have for dues and found that many clubs charge $60-$100, so I'm comfortable that $50 is fair and will be acceptable to current and new members. Although this could be a decision for the current board, I would like to hear the memberships views and opinions on this subject and have a vote at the November meeting. Also the rates for the seniors and juniors should be adjusted to make it a bit easier for cash payments. So I'm also proposing that seniors will become $25/yr and juniors/non-flying will become $15/yr.
Also start thinking about what you want to bring to the November pot luck dinner, which will be at my place this year. You (as a GMRC member) and a guest are invited, cocktails at 5:30, dinner at 6, and the meeting will start at 7. I can start a list in a web forum thread if that helps to keep track of who's bringing what.
Hope to see you on Wednesday night for the October meeting,
Your Pres,
Al
