:President's Message

Hello RC Fliers,

Well it's Thanksgiving and another year is almost in the books.  The club had, what I believe, a great November meeting.  We gathered at the Congo church for a pot luck dinner which was more like a feast.  Everyone looked like they had a good time.  We gave away some door prizes, raffled off a couple of planes, voted in new officers, and I tried to put everyone to sleep with a presentation that had, what I thought, enough pie charts to do the job. :-)

For officers, we kept some and added some. Here are our new officers for 2010.
For President:  Alan Reed
For Vice Pres.:  Mark Berardo
For Secretary / Treasurer:  Fred Towler
For  Safety officer: Jason Cooper
For Contest Director / Member at Large:  Tony Hoffman

Mark and I chided each other that we absolutely loved the job and agreed to stay on for one more year.  Mark thought I could go on forever as Pres., I mentioned that he would make a great president and he should run next year.  Fred, a former treas/sec.for the club, agreed to take the books once again.  Jason stepped up and will become the safety officer.  Jason will help with the oversight but as always I would like to remind all members and guests once again that safety is everyone's job at the field.  Tony has replaced Mike as the CD.  Thanks again to the outgoing officers, Mike Muzzy, Joe Marri, and Rich StGelais for their efforts and time.  Also thank you to the incoming officers, your input on the board of directors is really appreciated by all.  Together, we make a fantastic team for the club.

At the November dinner meeting a few of us talked about spicing up the winter meetings with a few themes.  Please see the forums for a thread to discuss and add your thoughts to that topic.  Along those lines a few also thought that a December meeting, which is usually light in attendance, should be passed up and canceled.  I thought it over and kind of liked the idea of skipping the December meeting.  So as of now the December meeting is called off and we'll meet again in January, currently at my place (see website for the address) and hopefully we'll have a theme idea to present.  Some themes that are on the forum threads are airplane repair, helos- hey what's that called inside there, and with the onset of winter, maybe we could have a show and tell on mounting skis.  Of course we could have a contest plane build night as well.

So take the month off , have a wonderful holiday, and we'll all meet again in the new year,

Your Pres. once again,

Al

Club Contest Plane

I would remind others that are interested in purchasing a contest wing, to bring their money at the next meeting so orders can be placed.  Minimum quantity of (5) needed to place order.  If they wish to receive their wing at the January meeting, they need to contact Mark Berardo, in the next couple of weeks.

Thank you,

Tony

From the editor:

People were wondering what was the clear covering included in the latest flying wing purchase.  I did a little research and found out that it is 3 mil laminating film used in office laminators.  The company builds these flying wings for full contact combat flying, so they use this material as it is super tough and durable.  The building rules are finalized, but there are some things that you have leeway on with how you build it (like covering and ailerons).  Tony will be putting together a complete list of requirements for everyone to see, there's been a recent building instruction update since the November Dinner meeting.  I've been taking to Tony about putting together a series of FAQ's.  There's more to come this month.

If you want to see what the wing is about, check the website:  www.crashtesthobby.com/  We are building the EPP Assassin Kit flying wing.

These are the building instructions:  http://www.crashtesthobby.com/index.php?p=1_11_Assassin-Titan  There are even more hints on RCGroups.  Check out the videos on RCGroups for building and flying.  Note, the major variation we are doing compared to their instructions is we will be using winglets to get better tracking for pylon racing.

No, these are show and tell models, not the ones that were raffled off...

Great eats!

Club Web Site

The web masters are home for the holiday and Matt and Dave decided to redo the site.  The design was flawed on the present site even though most users wouldn't know it.  Some browsers like the new Google chrome would crop the left side as well as some mobile devices.  So to make it better the website is getting a facelift that unfortunately means the user and forum data will not be transferable from the old site.  Users will need to re-create their userids and they will need to make new forum entries as well.

Please pass along that info and let the members know that the site has just been released but is still under construction.  Matt and Dave are still working out some bugs to get the same full functionality that we had before.

Thanks,

Al
