Presidents Message - Jan. 2010
Wow ... 2010 That makes a full decade of remote control modeling for my son Matt and me. We've had a lot of fun together and along the way strengthened the father/son bond we already shared. Like most fathers and sons, we liked sports and enjoyed soccer, golf, boating, and water skiing together but when my son Matt started us down the RC modeling path we both found something we loved to do that kept our interest and was special.
Hope your holidays were good. If you got something "nice" for Christmas, bring it to the next meeting for a show n' tell, we'd love to check it out. With the colder weather and snow, getting a lot of flying time becomes difficult but not impossible. Once the mercury finally rebounded to the 20's, Matt and I got busy with mounting skis to my planes and a bottom plate to Matt's Protos helo. We've been out several times in the past week getting time on the sticks and having some great flights. So don't let old man winter keep you grounded, you're missing out on some flying time!
This months meeting will be at my house, Wed. Jan 6th at 7pm. Besides all the usual stuff like a treasurers report, collecting dues, and discussing club issues, we will get a look at the 2010 contest plane that Tony has selected and we will go over the build requirements. I've just opened up mine and started looking it over. The plane is a wing called the Assassin. Geez the name for this contest plane probably says it all. This is a rugged plane that should be agile and fast enough to turn up the heat on the competition and survive, unlike the GWS we had last year which needed lots of repair time. I'm pretty sure that if you get knocked into or bang into another Assassin, any damage won't be enough to take you out of the competition. And ..... you can fly this in the winter cause you don't have any landing gear!
At the meeting. we'll also discuss some ideas of what you'd like to see for a theme or demo at the next few winter meetings. Some suggestions have been plane repair, helo components and repair, monocote covering tips n' tricks. What do you want to see or discuss?

Here's a team contest plane that we did in 2003. If you want to learn how we did the monocote stripes, I can do a discussion on that for one of our meetings. I'm sure there are many other talented members that have a lot to share, what's your specialty?

Club Web Site
The web masters are home for the holiday and Matt and Dave decided to redo the site. The design was flawed on the present site even though most users wouldn't know it. Some browsers like the new Google chrome would crop the left side as well as some mobile devices. So to make it better the website is getting a facelift that unfortunately means the user and forum data will not be transferable from the old site. Users will need to re-create their userids and they will need to make new forum entries as well.
Please pass along that info and let the members know that the site has just been released but is still under construction. Matt and Dave are still working out some bugs to get the same full functionality that we had before.
Thanks,
Al
