President's Message

March 2010 Presidents message,

I would like to thank Steve Pakulski for holding last months meeting at his place.  Steve was a gracious host and even was willing to put up last years contest winning GWS slow flyer for sale to anyone eager to own a piece of history.  This member did think the starting asking price may have been a tad high, but for a winning design maybe others think that $500 is a steal!  Also wanted to thank Wayne Pierce for sharing his tips for covering and art design techniques.

For this months meeting, we couldn't get the anticipated locations of the Yankee Pride or Brownell Library.  I was ready to host the meeting but wanted others to have a chance to volunteer.  I didn't expect Jason Cooper to offer to hold the March meeting as he had already accepted to do the April spot.  Since Jason's is the only response, I'm taking him up on his and Laura's hospitality and we'll all fill his playroom for this and next month's meetings.  Thank you Jason!   Joe Marri and I are planning to have some repair presentations for this meeting and next.  For this month I've selected my favorite basher, the 3D Hobby Shop Extra SR.  Jason said he would like to do a segment on transmitter programming as well.

Another thank you (so many this month!) to Ken Mann for hosting his Annual Chili Fun fly.  It was a good day to fly, warm for February, light winds (for the lake), and the ice was booming!! again this year (I hear that means it's making ice vs coming apart!).  Many showed up as spectators this year, with half of us ready to take to the air.

We had wings, 3D planes and helos all enjoying the clear conditions and lightly covered or clear ice that made for great flying.  We got to try out the new contest plane launch platform and that worked good for some and was a problem for others.  A bit more work needed on that, but the results looked favorable.  As always, whether the flying is good or not, the food was great.  Ken's chili was out of action this year due to kitchen construction, but a few others sub'ed with some hot and mild substitutes that went over really well.

Thanks to everyone who came to participate and provided food.  Also a big thanks to Steve Shaw for bringing his camera and taking all the pics of the event.  Matt and I got some video shots as well.  Check out the website photo and video sections to see the action.

Hope to see you at Jason's!

Your Pres.,
Al

Dues are Due

Don't forget to pay your dues before March.  Our new treasurer Fred will be available at the meeting, his contact information is above.  This year, we've voted on a $10 road improvement fee for each member, this applies only to this year.  Remember, we've haven't raised our dues in many, many years!  Thank you for your generosity.

Contact Fred Towler at 879-7271 for more information, or come to the meeting.  These dues cover this newsletter (if anyone needs a hardcopy), flyers for local hobby shops, the club web site, maintenance on the field, and the mower, fun fly prizes, food at the fun flys, etc.  Dues are $36 for Regular members, $24 for Seniors, $12 for Junior (under 18) members, and $12 for non-flying Associates (those interested in the hobby and want to support the club activities).
