Club History

Overview

The Green Mountain RC Club has enjoyed a long history in the village of Essex Junction and town of Essex, Vermont. The purpose of this corporation is to promote Radio Control of Models in the the State of Vermont. The club members come from the Chittenden county area and also from several surrounding counties in northwest Vermont. The club encourages the participation of all in enjoying the sport of model R/C airplanes and at the same time making it a fun, safe activity. We love to fly, and invite you to come join our club.

Club Background

Formed and incorporated on Nov 9, 1970, the founding fathers of our club are no longer active members, but they paved the way for R/C modeling in the Essex Junction area. Their vision has built a solid club foundation with a new corporation that includes a 5 member board of directors. Board positions are president, vice-president, secretary/treasurer, safety office/contest director, and a member at large. They also affliliated the corporation, through the clubs’ by-laws, with the AMA (The Academy of Model Aeronautics).

Meetings

Meetings are normally held on the first Wednesday of the month. In the summer it is held at the field, starting at 6:30pm. In the winter or during inclement weather, the meetings are held at various locations in the Essex area. Upcoming Club events are posted in the newsletters as well as on the web page club calendar. The club tries to hold outdoor events from May through October. We have been scheduling our “fun flys” on the Saturday following the monthly meetings.
In the colder months, the club organizes “indoor fun flys” and some winter outdoor acitivites, such as, “chili fun flys”. These and all of the fun fly events can be seen in the clubs’ photo and video sections in these web pages.

Membership

Becoming a Member of a R/C club such as ours has many benefits. The primary benefit is having a safe, wide-open, location to fly, but there are many others. Some that come to mind are: instruction for the beginner, monthly Newletters, participation in Fun Fly events, getting valuable help with equipment selections, availability of experianced flying members, a well maintained flying field, and someone to share your enthusiasm for the sport of RC flying.
